Welcome to Your Session Guide
What to Wear
When choosing what to wear, always consider the location—navigating a waterfall in heels can be tricky! I recommend starting your session in slip-on shoes or sneakers for the adventure, then changing into heels if that’s the vibe you’re going for.
Solid colors photograph best. Prints can be distracting and pull attention away from what really matters—you. Start with a neutral base and build from there. Neutral tones are typically more flattering and timeless than bright colors.
Avoid tight-fitting clothing that may highlight areas you’d rather not emphasize, and don’t forget to consider the weather—think light layers for fall sessions or a cute coat if it’s going to be chilly.
Lastly, avoid matching outfits exactly. Coordinating colors and textures creates a more natural, effortless look in your photos.
Be Prepared
Avoid foods the day before your session that may make you feel bloated - remember if you feel good, you look good! Keep it light the morning of -- feel free to bring snacks, avoiding candy for the kids that may stain their mouths. Stay hydrated -- this includes bringing water with you. Sometimes we are exploring a location for that PERFECT background and having water handy is a MUST.
Make sure that everything is ready the day before. Avoid the rush the day of and becoming flustered before the session. You want to be relaxed and have fun! Try on your outfit a few days before, make sure it still fits and looks exactly how you envisioned it for your session! Talk to your kids about the session in advance, hype them up and get them excited. You would be surprised at how well this works for the day of! If you have any questions -- always feel free to reach out to me!
Trust the Process
We are going to get silly. We are going to play in water, jump off of things, play ring around the Rosie and Hide and Seek. Sometimes my prompts may seem a little off the wall, like when I tell your fiancé to run up behind you and bear hug you and spin you around, or when I tell you to hold hands and walk like you're drunk -- trust the process. Some of the best photos are the candid, goofy ones. That is what I like to focus on, over the more stiff and posed.
